ABOUT

RUSSELL ERWIN
This portfolio site includes a representative sampling of my art and craftsmanship over the past 30+ years. See the drop down menu links above.  There is also a contact form and FAQ section below.

Though primarily known for commissioned mural and decorative work, I'm mostly focused on easel sized work these days.

Since receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree from the New York Academy of Art in 1990, I've been a full time working artist and/or art teacher.  I live and work in Houston, Texas.

FAQs

  • What is your education?
I have both an undergraduate and graduate degree in Fine Art, from the University of Houston and the New York Academy of Art, respectively.  This along with various courses of professional development and 30+ years of work experience has given me a strong skill set and knowledge basis in my field.

  • Do you teach?
Yes.  I have taught both full and part time at levels ranging from Middle School, High School, University and professional development workshops.  I currently carry a full time teaching schedule at a public school.

  • Do you show in galleries?
In addition to teaching full time, I do produce independent work for exhibition and sale.  When I have more of an inventory, I will be approaching a gallery or two. Despite having generated significant income from my work for decades now, I do not have a track record within the gallery system.

  • What sort of commissions do you seek?
I am not actively seeking commissions at the moment but will accept commissions for murals, portraits, site specific pieces and off beat projects.  I enjoy doing things that are creative, collaborative and socially impactful. I have done a lot of projects that involve a combination of fine and applied art in collaboration with design professionals or clients directly.  I'm currently teaching full time though, so scheduling and plenty of lead time is important.
